Duane Denison of The Jesus Lizard on Powers Electric Guitars!
The Music Zoo interviews Duane Denison about his newfound love of Powers Electric and how the A-Type allows him to create music with The Jesus Lizard and Tomahawk, offering something new while still sounding like himself!
When word on the street was that guitarist Duane Denison of the legendary band The Jesus Lizard was rocking a brand new Powers Electric A-Type, we were thrilled. One of our favorite guitarists was using one of our favorite new brands in a unique way within a band that has a very signature sound? We had questions! We jumped at the chance to speak to him about his experience with the guitar during a stop in Brooklyn during the 2024 Jesus Lizard tour.
Duane speaks with Jordan about his first impressions of picking up the A-Type which was a loaner, quickly leading to him ordering one for full-time use and how the construction of the guitar including its camshaft tailpiece and compound radius fretboard allow him to do everything he needs to do in not only The Jesus Lizard, but heavier bands such as Tomahawk too! Lots of great guitar playing and buying insight comes from Duane in this interview - watch now and learn!
Show Notes of The Jesus Lizard at Brooklyn Steel - December 11th 2024 by Jordan Usatch
This was my second time seeing The Jesus Lizard in their 'reunion' era - however this time coming back to NYC on a tour of their excellent new 2024 record "Rack". The Jesus Lizard is in my opinion a perfect band; consisting of David Yow, Duane Denison, David Wm. Sims and Mac McNeilly - each member fires on all cylinders to create perfect Rock music. I was very interested to hear how the Powers Electric A-Type sounded on stage with Duane, and of course it sounded like him. The rig as detailed in our interview was simple: the A-Type with FF42 pickups into a Victory Amplifiers Super Sheriff head with a Line 6 Helix in the effects loop. The guitars sounded sharp and to the point - just like a good Jesus Lizard song!
The set ranged from TLJ classics like "Mouthbreather", "Boilermaker" and "Puss" to new songs like "What If?" off of 2024s "Rack" - which is a song that's slow and sparse in its guitar work that the A-Type and its clarity were really put in the spotlight!
Thank you to Duane for taking the time for our interview and to the fine folks at Powers Electric for lining everything up! I hope this video encourages players of all genres to come and try out a Powers at The Music Zoo.
