Gibson Eric Clapton “Beano” 1960 Les Paul Unveiled
On 1966’s John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton, the world was met with a sound never before heard: a Les Paul paired with a Marshall amplifier. 21-year-old Eric Clapton was deftly handling his sunburst 1960 Les Paul Standard on this record, having put down his Fender Telecaster. The rest is history. Unfortunately the guitar is history too, because it was stolen from Clapton just a year later, making it almost as legendary as Clapton himself has become. Naturally, now Gibson has just released the limited edition “Beano” 1960 Eric Clapton Les Paul – a run of tributes to this famous guitar and to one of the finest guitarists of all time. Sandwiched between The Yardbirds and Cream, 1966’s John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton was a showcase for the brilliant 21 year old guitarist turned deity. For this album Clapton abandoned his Fender Telecaster & VOX AC30 for a 1960 Les Paul Standard & Marshall to become a guitar god.
