Guitar Showcase: Fender Custom Shop Katana Masterbuilt by Todd Krause
Posted on by Walter Bryant
We brought quite a few cool axes home with us from NAMM this year, but none quite as nostalgic as this Fender Masterbuilt Katana. Originally designed by marketing director Dan Smith, the Fender Katana was designed to compete with the unconventionally-shaped guitars of the era of the 1980’s. Unfortunately, the Katana did not sell as well as Fender anticipated, and was discontinued in 1986, just a year later. However, thanks to Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilder Todd Krause, the Katana is back and in a fierce “Mango Tango” finish! Hear Krause talk about the NAMM 2016 showpiece in the video below. You can also get a closer look at this guitar in the photo set we put together before it shipped to its new owner! Enjoy!
