This smaller-bodied Martin is Mayer’s vision of his “ultimate 00-45”. The Cocobolo and Adirondack Spruce is all joined together with hot hide glue in Martin’s Custom Shop. The elaborate rosette continues across the fingerboard at the 18th fret as it transforms into an equally elaborate inlay. A Traditional But Exquisite 12-fret Grand Concer t In Luscious Cocobolo
In collaboration with seven-time Grammy Award winner John Mayer, C. F. Martin & Co. is pleased to introduce a very special premium guitar – the 00-45SC John Mayer Stagecoach Edition – limited to just 25 instruments.
“There’s something about a smaller-bodied acoustic guitar that has always appealed to me,” said John Mayer. “In one glance it inspires me to write, travel, perform, and age along with it. Not very long ago I was inspired to return to a completely natural way of writing and recording music, and at the center of that vision were the Martin 00-sized guitars that defined an era of brilliant songwriting in the ’60s and ’70s. The 00-45SC John Mayer Stagecoach Edition is my vision of the ultimate 00-45 come to life. It’s simply perfect.”

Based upon 12-fret 00 specifications and design elements suggested by the artist himself, the 00-45SC John Mayer Edition is constructed with back, sides and head plate of premium cocobolo, a beautiful genuine rosewood distinguished by rich red-orange hue and black grain striations. The soundboard is premium bookmatched Adirondack spruce, prized for tonal clarity and powerful projection. The slotted tapered headstock with squared slots is equipped with premium Waverly Sloane bronze engraved side-mount tuning machines with ivoroid buttons. Style 45 inlays are executed in rare blue paua shell, as are the delicate snowflake fingerboard position markers and the ornate 1902 alternate torch on the headstock.
Martin’s 00 12-fret body size has long been revered for its rich, airy tone, and this special model incorporates unique features in both construction and appointments. Hide glue Custom Shop construction and hand-scalloped Adirondack spruce bracing provide the 00-45SC John Mayer Edition with classic vintage tone. The Style 45 top inlay is truly unique; the inlay along the fingerboard extension extends seamlessly into miter joints at the Style 45 rosette, which in turn completes a full 360° arch across the fingerboard below the 18th fret. A spectacular feat of inlay art, it must be seen to be fully appreciated. Each 00-45SC John Mayer Edition will feature an interior label personally signed by John Mayer and numbered in sequence along with the total (25 guitars) in the edition. This special model was introduced at the Anaheim Winter NAMM Show in January of 2012: any remaining instruments can be ordered though authorized C.F. Martin & Co. dealers.
