NAMM 2017: Darkglass Alpha/Omega Drive and Microtubes 900 Amplifier Intelligent Footswitch
NAMM 2017 We have been super excited to lay our hands on the new Darkglass Electronics Microtubes 900, and we are happy to report back that this amp is nothing short of fantastic. The Microtubes 900 is 900 watts of Class D power in a chassis that can easily fit into a backpack or an overhead bin on an airplane. This is an amplifier that will change the game for you if you’re a musician in a modern heavy Rock or Metal band, or just a unique bassist who wants to stand out from the pack.
As far as the layout goes: on the right side you’ll find the clean section which is the foundation of your tone. It features Gain and Master controls an active 4 band EQ. Along with Low and Treble controls you will find Low Mids and Hi Mids control, each knob with their own 3-way frequency switch. On the left side you will find the Microtubes® Engine which acts as an extra channel that can bring your clean tone to the next level by helping you cut through the mix while adding anything from subtle tube break up, harmonics and natural compression to obliterating distortion.
Darkglass has also just introduced the Super Intelligent Footswitch for the 900 amplifier. It allows for easy access to the wide tonal options the amplifier offers: Clean channel, Vintage Microtubes and Microtubes B3K overdrives and Mute are now a stomp away.
There is also the new Alpha Omega Drive pedal, designed in collaboration with Karnivool (look them up, trust us) bassist Jon Stockman. The pedal can go from the Alpha tight distortion side to a looser fuzz as you then the MOD knob toward Omega. It sounds fantastic and we can’t wait to get our hands on these. Arrival ETA is March 2017.
