Fender Custom Shop kicks things off with their show-stopping 23-karat gold leaf Coronation Stratocaster built by Yuriy Shishkov!

The magnificent Prestige Coronation Stratocaster® by Yuriy Shishkov is inspired by the famous Fabergé Imperial Coronation Egg, fashioned in 1897 to commemorate the 1896 coronation of Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra to the throne of the Russian Empire. As such, it is the pinnacle of elegance and the benchmark Fender Custom Shop offering for 2020. In homage to the fabulous jeweled egg crafted by the House of Fabergé well more than a century ago, Shishkov spared no expense over 16 months of beautifully meticulous work, lacing the guitar with gold, silver and diamonds in what became his most complex and fascinating project to date.

The one-piece soft maple body is clad in a 23-karat gold leaf finish with delicate “on-wood” guilloche work, gilded silver artwork and custom-fabricated diamond eagle medallions, along with 113 hand-inlayed 2mm diamonds. The quartersawn maple neck features 23-karat gold leaf embossing, custom silver inlays, sparkle binding, ruby side dots, and distinctive “trellises” with the same diamond patterns found on the egg’s “Hidden Surprise” coach. The custom “Ivan the Terrible” single-coil pickups were hand-wound by famed master winder Abigail Ybarra, with custom guilloche covers bedecked with 44 2mm diamonds each. The guitar also comes with a limited-edition recreation of the Fabergé Imperial Coronation Egg on which it is based. Scroll below for up-close photos of this impressive work of art!
